Why are some forum links hidden until you log in (or reach a trust level)?

I’ve noticed something odd across a few different forums: people reference a URL in their post, but as a guest I either can’t see it at all, or it shows up as plain text that isn’t clickable. Then I log in, or after I’ve posted a couple of replies, the link suddenly appears—or the “missing” section of the post expands and the URL is there.

Also watch where the link is placed. Some forums block links in signatures, profiles, the first post, or the first few replies from new accounts. Others strip links from edits, quotes, or certain BBCode blocks. So someone might say “I posted it above,” but it’s actually in a signature area you can’t see yet, or it’s behind a spoiler tag you haven’t expanded. If you’re troubleshooting, it helps to inspect whether the post uses spoilers, shortcodes, or “collapsed content.” That’s part of why guides like show hidden links on forums https://backlink.forum/ recommend checking both permissions and formatting.
